As Senior Technical Architect, Bob’s responsibilities include the design, specification and evangelisation of the Freeview Play platform; working with partners and suppliers to develop, test and support new technical functionality.

Distinguished Architect
February 2016 to May 2018

Bob demonstrated leadership in consultancy and design of end-to-end architectures that were central to several multi-million dollar contracts around the globe.

He developed new services and technology business for both new and existing customers.

Bob supported pre- and post-sales activities: delivering presentations and conducting workshops to evangelise and promote technology to potential customers.  Bob frequently acted as the “go-between” between internal departments, customers and partners.

He was the domain expert in data security, cryptography and its applications and implementations

Good Technology
Principal Systems Architect
February 2009 to February 2016

Bob was the principal technical focus of design and development activity for the company’s core technologies.

He led a team of engineers working on-site across the world to integrate Good’s technology with device manufacturers and network operators alike.

During this time, Bob successfully completed an 12-month secondment as sole Solutions Architect on a multi-million-dollar contract with a South Korean handset manufacturer, much of that time being spent on site.

Bob was the principal architect, responsible for effective design and development at the company’s UK and European operations.

His roles and responsibilities include the specification of system designs, technical familiarity with (principally) Symbian and Windows Mobile operating systems, communication and dialogue with internal and external parties, setting the technical direction, due diligence in M&A activities, and patent applications.

Senior Development Engineer
August 2000 to February 2004

As Technical Lead, Bob was responsible for the design and architecture of end-to-end, connected systems for GPRS-enabled Symbian devices.

Bob provided technical specifications and documentation for a variety of audiences and successfully completed development of a number of products using internal resources and by outsourcing to external software houses.

He represented the company both in the UK and abroad as the sole technical point of contact for developers and other partners.

A number of Bob’s designs have resulted in granted patents.

Harris Corporation
Development Manager
January 1999 to August 2000

Bob was responsible for all software produced by the UK office, and reported to the General Manager. He managed four other developers of varied abilities.

The team designed and implemented custom enhancements to an industry-standard broadcast automation product using C, C++ and Delphi.

Bob was also responsible for administration of the office network in addition to the acquisition and management of desktop, laptop and server machines.

BBC Research and Development
Research and Development Engineer
September 1993 to January 1999

Bob joined the BBC full-time in 1993 as a Research and Development Engineer, after a successful period of sponsorship during his studies at Nottingham University.

Working mostly with Linux, Solaris and in-house embedded systems, Bob wrote software in C and C++ for a wide variety of broadcast & multimedia applications.

Some of these systems were instrumental in deploying the UK’s first operational transmission systems for both Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB), and Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB).
